EUR 500,000 Investment: Magdeburg Startup Be2Byte Brings AI to the Laboratory

The investors include the IBG Funds, managed by bmp Ventures AG, which recognized the significant potential of LabThunder in the rapidly growing market for digital laboratory solutions.
With LabThunder, Be2Byte addresses a long-overlooked challenge in laboratory software: the management of laboratory equipment and operational knowledge. Digital logbooks and centralized equipment management ensure seamless, audit-ready documentation, while the AI-powered assistant Thunder AI® enables laboratory staff to locate information within seconds, make informed decisions, and resolve equipment issues independently—reducing costly service calls and minimizing downtime.
The platform is designed for analytical service laboratories, environmental and food testing facilities, as well as clinical and academic laboratories, with expansion into the highly regulated pharmaceutical sector representing the company’s next major growth milestone.

The platform has already demonstrated its value in real-world laboratory environments. At Zentrallabor Witowski, an ISO 17025-accredited analytical laboratory in Germany’s Rheinhessen region, LabThunder reduced documentation effort by more than 70%, replaced 107 paper logbooks, and was fully implemented within just ten weeks.

Built by People Who Know the Lab

Be2Byte was founded by a team combining commercial excellence with deep technical expertise. Co-Founder and Managing Director Julian Weber brings 16 years of experience as a laboratory technician, service engineer, and account manager, including positions at Thermo Fisher Scientific and Shimadzu, where he advised hundreds of laboratories. Co-Founder Manuel Diaz, a biotechnologist and experienced life sciences account manager, serves as Chief Revenue Officer, while Robert Perez, the company’s Chief Technology Officer, contributes more than a decade of software development expertise.
This close connection to laboratory operations has shaped LabThunder from the ground up—from its intuitive user interface and modular architecture to its integrated AI capabilities powered by the central Thunder AI® assistant.

Scaling the Platform

With the newly secured funding, Be2Byte plans to strengthen LabThunder’s market presence across the DACH region while continuing to expand its ecosystem of specialized modules. Market entry into the regulated pharmaceutical sector is planned for the end of 2027.
