190 MWh: TESVOLT Announces Largest Battery Storage Project in Company History

Wittenberg, Germany, June 18, 2026 – TESVOLT has received the construction permit for a 190 MWh battery energy storage park in Wittenberg, Germany.

The project will comprise 36 utility-scale battery storage systems that will be used for energy trading, making it the largest battery storage project in the company’s history to date.
TESVOLT will develop the project through to the ready-to-build stage and will also be responsible for construction, while an investor will provide financing and operate the facility once completed. The total project volume amounts to approximately €35 million. Regional grid operator MITNETZ has already confirmed the required grid connection capacity.

High-Voltage Grid Connection

The battery energy storage park will be built on a commercial site covering more than 20,000 square metres in the Wittenberg district of Apollensdorf. TESVOLT will install 36 utility-scale battery storage systems with a combined energy capacity of 190 MWh and a total power output of 60 MW.
The facility will be connected to the grid via an existing high-voltage transmission line running across the site. A new substation will also be constructed as part of the project. In addition, a noise barrier will be installed to shield the residential area located north of the site from operational noise.
Commissioning of the battery storage park is scheduled for March 2028.

Milestone for Utility-Scale Storage Business

“We identify suitable locations for utility-scale battery storage projects based on technical, regulatory and commercial criteria. The Apollensdorf project marks an important milestone in the expansion of our utility-scale storage business,” said Daniel Hannemann, CEO of TESVOLT AG. “Saxony-Anhalt is one of Germany’s leading states in terms of renewable energy generation. Battery storage systems play a key role in absorbing surplus electricity from wind and solar power while adding flexibility to the power system.”

Investor Focuses on Energy Arbitrage

“The battery storage park offers attractive revenue opportunities through energy arbitrage,” said Marco Reißhauer, Project Manager at TESVOLT. “We secured an investor relatively quickly, not least because the project is already at an advanced stage of development and the required grid connection capacity has been confirmed.”
